Watercolour painting depicting the devastation post the November 2019 bushfires in the Tallaganda Forest around Braidwood NSW

Rachel Wright Art

My work draws inspiration from the atmospheric landscapes of J.M.W. Turner and the desolate themes and tones of Russell Drysdale. While my use of darker palettes and evocative objects may initially unsettle, my intention is to invite viewers to engage more deeply with the forces of nature, the vibrancy of life, and to find solace in the contemplation of our inevitable end.

I am naturally drawn to pencil over pen when drawing, and watercolours and oils when painting.  These choices are not arbitrary; they allow me to capture the ethereal qualities that resonate with me. The soft gradients of pencil, the fluidity of watercolours, and the rich texture of oils on canvas all contribute to this effect.
